2.2. Changing User Emails & Passwords

For security reasons, only the user themselves can modify their email address or password. Even a system administrator will not be able to change another user's email address or password. If a user needs to update their user email address and password, they should login to Arctic using their existing login details. Once they are in the system, they can click their name in the blue bar at the top of the page as shown here:

This will open the "User" menu. Here Arctic will display the email address currently associated with the user account and give options to change the email address, to change the password, to set up two factor authentication for the account (for more information on two-factor authentication, see the next section), to access the guest facing site or to logout.

When updating the email address, Arctic requires the user to click a confirmation link to ensure that the new email address is valid before updating the user account and login details. Once the new email address has been validated by clicking the link sent by email, the account will be updated. The next time, the user logs in, they will use the new email address for the "Email Address" field.

When updating the password, the change takes place immediately. Arctic will immediately apply the new password to the account. The user will need to use the new password to login in the future.

If a user forgets their password and cannot log in to Arctic, they can click the blue "reset your login" link on the login page.

The user can then enter the email address associated with their user account and Arctic will send a password reset email to the login address. The user can then select a new, secure password.

If a user has changed their email address and does not remember their old password to be able to log in to the system and no longer has access to their old email address, then a new user account will have to be created for them. In this event, we recommend removing the old user account from your installation.
