16.1. Enabling the Hold Feature
Arctic offers the ability to put reservations or rentals on hold for your guests. When an activity is held, Arctic will set aside the required inventory, the number of trip spaces, etc. for the activity until either the date the deposit is due or a specific date you set with the guest. By default, this feature is disabled on all installations. To enable this feature go to the "Settings" page under "Activities" and click the "Pencil" icon next to "Enable Holds" as shown here:
On the "Configure" page, choose "Yes, allow holds".
Arctic will then add two additional fields to the "Configure" page. The first field is the "Default behavior" drop down. Here you can choose your preferred behavior for holds. You can choose either "Off by default", "Hold til deposit due date", or "Hold for a specified number of days". If you don't think you will use the hold feature all of the time then you will want to choose "Off by default." Otherwise you will have to manually turn off the hold for each reservation or rental that is a confirmed activity.
The last field is the "Default Hold Duration". Here you will enter the number of days you want Arctic to use for holds by default. If you do not want to specify a default number of days you can leave this field blank.
Once you have completed the fields to your satisfaction, click "Save Setting" to save your changes and enable the feature.
In the next section of this chapter, we will discuss how to use the Activity Hold feature.
