30.3. Managing the Guest-Facing Site Design on a Subdomain Implementation
If you choose to use a subdomain to host your Arctic guest-facing site, during the setup, we will help do an initial import of your website design so that the guest-facing site will have the same look and feel, as well as navigation and branding as your main website. This ensures that when a guest clicks a link to access your guest-facing site, it will feel seamless. Once we do this initial import, you or your web designer can use tools in Arctic to manage or update your design.
Below are some general tips and information about the guest-facing site design.
Mobile
Arctic produces responsive content, so that it can work on a range of device sizes (phones, tablets or computers). But since Arctic is embedded in your design, it depends on your design to be mobile friendly. There are two approaches to this:
- You can specify two designs, one for computers and one for mobile devices. Arctic will try to automatically identify the type of device being used by the guest and present the appropriate design. Each design has to be updated and managed separately.
- You can use a responsive design. No special setup is required for this. This is generally the recommended option.
Sample Page
In order to help us with the initial import, and to enable easier maintenance of the guest-facing site, we recommend creating a hidden page on your site that shows what the guest-facing site should look like. If you insert special placeholders into the page, Arctic can automatically import the design, which makes design updates easier for you and your web designer.
Add the following placeholders to the page:
Where the page title should appear: {SITE-TITLE}
Where the page content should appear: {SITE-BODY}
Once created, if you provide our team with this page, we will use it for the initial import and you can use it whenever updating the page.
Design Tips
We recommend giving Arctic as wide a page as possible. This makes for a nicer look to the pages, and larger images for such features as the photo kiosk and photo sharing functionality. On the sample page described above, we recommend configuring the design to disable any sidebars or other content that will limit the width of the primary page content.
