29.4. Helpful Hints For Packages

Quantity

Generally, it is recommend that your packages contain less than four activities to keep the booking process streamlined. However Arctic is capable of doing up to five activities in a package.

Definition nuances

Package definitions can be extremely precise (for example, using a trip type condition). But you can also offer more general up-sell options by offering any trip in a specific business group.

The following is just one example of the many creative ways you can configure package definitions.

Timing

The timing for package definitions is important. If you do not have a qualifying trip that falls within the timeframe specified, Arctic will not show any information about the package. You can specify for Arctic to offer activities "within" a certain time frame, or "exactly" at a certain time. Also you can have Arctic offer activities "after" the primary, or "before or after."

Use the "exact" timing option to help guests combine very specific trips when you know the start times and have transit or other logistic constraints. Use the "within" timing option for packages that have more flexibility in timing. Finally, use "after" timing when guests tend to go on activities in a certain order (e.g., either do to weather or clothing or ease of transit), and use "before or after" if the timing is very flexible.

Examples:

  • WITHIN 3 hours AFTER will up-sell all qualifying activities that starts within 0-3 hours after the previous activity ends
  • EXACTLY 3 hours AFTER will only up-sell a qualifying activity that starts exactly 3 hours after the previous activity ends
  • WITHIN 1 day AFTER will up-sell activities that start within 24 hours after the previous activity ends
  • 3 hours BEFORE OR AFTER will offer activities that end either 3 hours before the previous activity starts or that start 3 hours after the previous activity ends

Limitations

There are a few limitations to packages that you should keep in mind.

  • Packages can contain up to 5 activity definitions. Activities in the packages must start/end within 3 days of each other. This helps Arctic have a limited set of items that it promotes. Generally though, we recommend even tighter timing restrictions to provide the guest with a few ideal trips to compliment what they have already purchased.
  • Arctic will only offer a package if it saves additional money. If up-selling another package offers no added savings, Arctic will not promote it.
  • By default, every activity in the package must have the same number of guests. (This can be disabled, contact support for more information.)
