32.4. Activity Notifications

Guests and guides will, by default, receive automatic emails notifying them of new photos, videos and messages. The photo site activity emails are automatically sent each day in the late afternoon to guests and guides if and only if there is new content on the photo / social site (and only if they have not logged in since then). The emails include thumbnails, links to access the social site and an option to unsubscribe from future notifications. All the images and links are personalized, so clicking the link will log them into the guest-facing site (unless they have a password established). If an evaluation is required, the guest will be taken to the evaluation first and then will be sent to the photo that they selected.

An example notification: If the guide "Irene" posts new photos, all guests and all other guides will receive an email with thumbnails and links to the guest-facing site. Irene will not receive an email, because she made the post and so it is not considered new for her.

You can control how the activity notifications are handled by going to the "Settings" page under "Social Site" and clicking the "Pencil" icon next to "Send Activity Notifications". You have three options for handling activity notifications: "No", "Yes, to guests requesting notifications (opt-in)" and "Yes, to all guests (opt-out)". The "No" option will disable the notifications entirely and means that guests and guides will have to log in to see if anything new has been posted. The "Yes, to guests requesting notifications (opt-in)" option will only send notifications to guests if they specifically set up notifications on their accounts. The "Yes, to all guests (opt-out)" option will send notifications to all guests; guests can opt to disable notifications at any time.

To enable or disable notifications, guests use the "My Notifications" option under their name in the guest-facing toolbar.

On the "Manage Photo Notifications" page, the guest can either click the green "Enable Notifications" button or the red "Disable Notifications" button to change their notification preferences. A guest can alter her/his preferences as desired.

There will also be a link at the bottom of the email notifications that guests can click to modify notification preferences. When they click this link, Arctic will take them directly to the "Manage Photo Notifications" page for their account so they can disable the notifications.

Note: Currently, activity notifications are not customizable due to the complexity of their content.
